Matches off

Silsden’s Northern u19 Alliance match at Liversedge tonight has been postponed.
The Northern Counties East League club’s pitch is waterlogged.
Silsden u19 are next due to be in action on Tuesday when they play host to Ossett Albion.
A first-team friendly against Knaresborough Town tonight has also been postponed because of pitch conditions.

It’s the Ben and Joel goal show

Sutton u10 7
Weston Lane 0
Ben Darkins and Joel Livock shared the goals as Sutton extended their unbeaten run in league competition to six games.
The team quickly got into their stride and were 3-0 up by half-time. They continued to dominate the game in the second half adding another four goals.
The Sutton keeper did not have to make a save throughout the game as the team completed a fifth clean sheet of the season.
Ben notched one more goal than his strike partner and claimed the man of the match award.
The parents’ choice was Ciaran.

Joe’s double sees off Shipley

Shipley 1
Sutton u7 Rogues 2
Despite freezing temperatures and gale force winds the boys in yellow put in a sterling performance to beat Shipley.
Joe B gave the away team an early lead, slotting home from close range after good build-up play.
Shipley level in fortuitous circumstances when the Sutton goal keeper fumbled a shot into his own net.
But Sutton’s neat passing football ensured Sutton finished ahead thanks to Joe’s close-range strike for his second.
Peter B was rock solid in defence, allowing Joe B, Reece B and Archie H  to find space and pick their passes in midfield.
Matthew A scampered free several times only for the Shipley goalkeeper to save well or find a well-timed tackle taking the ball off his toes.
In the final period, Matthew A fired inches wide and Joe B struck a post after a jinking run.
Matthew H was man of the match.

Shipley 7 Sutton u7 Rebels 1
Shipley were short of players so gave a run out to some of their boys who had already played in the previous match against the Rogues.
Unfortunately this meant they were too strong for a spirited Sutton team.
Having lost 7-0 to the same opposition last week this was an improved result but it was the manner of the performance which, again, was pleasing for coaches and parents alike.
A neat finish by Morgan S gained an improvement on the previous scoreline for Sutton.
Fergus C was Sutton’s man of the match.

Sutton fail to make chances count

Grassington Juniors 5
Sutton Juniors u7A 4
This DFL League game was played on a postage stamp-size pitch in cold, wet and blustery conditions.
Despite this, Sutton were quickly into their stride but, despite all the early pressure, Grassington pounced on a loose ball in defence to score first.
Stan Lloyd quickly equalised tonally for Grassington to add two more goals when Sutton again failed to clear the ball out of the danger area.
In the second half, Matthew Broadbent calmly slotted home a left-foot strike through a packed penalty area to to pull one back but once again the Sutton defence went to sleep and Grassington made it 5-2.
Two quick goals from Matthew Broadbent and Sam Benson narrowed the lead to a single goal to set up a grandstand finish but it was too late to save Sutton, who won the corner count 10-2 and were 15-5 ahead on shots.

Grassington Juniors 5 Sutton Juniors u7A 2
The friendly started very much like the first game with Sutton on the front foot.
Unfortunately though, a lack of concentration and failure to close the ball down saw the Grassington team take a quick 3-0 lead.
Tommy Davis and Flynn Weller were putting in a great shift in the centre and breaking down the opposition attacks and distributing the ball out to the wings.
Stan Lloyd and Aidan Lee both bagged a goal apiece with great individual runs.
Grassington added two further goals in the second half but again the scoreline flattered the home side, who seemed to score from all the chances they had.
Player of the day was Daniel Mason for his great midfield and attacking play.

Great strike earns revenge for Sandy Lane

Long Lee u13 0  Sandy Lane 1
A hard-fought battle between Long Lee and Sandy Lane saw the visitors turn the tables and get revenge over Long Lee for the loss they suffered when the two teams met in the previous weekend.
In blustery conditions, both teams battled well and the desire to win was clear for all to see.
With both teams pushing forward and creating chances, it was Sandy Lane who broke the deadlock with a great strike from the edge of the box which nestled in the bottom corner giving Long Lee keeper Tom Addison no chance.
Long Lee continued to battle despite the setback and created plenty of chances but just failed to capitalise on them.
Harrison Mullaney continued to play well down the left, creating plenty of chances for Long Lee and, as ever, Paddy Ellison took control from the back with another inspiring peformance.
Newcomer Tom Mawer also looked very lively in the centre of midfield.

Smith triples up as Crossflatts run leaders close

Ilkley Dynamo 4 Crossflatts Village 3
Crossflatts’ three-match winning run came to an end in frustrating fashion.
Three times the Wharfedale Triangle Sunday League side led against Premier Division leaders Ilkley but every time the hosts hit back and eventually grabbed a late winner.
Man of the match Graham Emsley set up Lee Smith for the opening goal after 18 minutes but it was 1-1 just before half-time.

Wood knocks down Armley

Armley Rangers 1 Cullingworth Youth 5
Cullingworth continued their impressive away form with a comfortable Wharfedale Triangle Sunday League win in very windy conditions.
Even though the weather conditions favoured Armley in the first half, Cullingworth held a 2-1 lead at the interval.
The second half was one-way traffic with Cullingworth adding three more.
Man of the match Kevin Wood scored a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Jonathan Clewes and Mark Kitchen.
