Aire Valley fail to make wind count

FC Polonia Patson 3
Aire Valley 1
Even though conditions were extremely difficult with a very strong, swirling wind blowing wildly around the large open space at Marley Stadium, both teams started off well and tried to keep the ball on the floor and play football in their Wharfedale Triangle Sunday League encounter.
Aire Valley had the wind advantage in the first half and made this pay after about 20 minutes when a through ball from David Unwin found Michael Sharp in space between the Polonia centre backs and he finished with a well-taken lob over the keeper.
Apart from a strong penalty appeal for the Valley men after Greg Edgley appeared to be tripped in the box, this was the only action of note in the first half as the wind continued to spoil a potentially good game.
Polonia, with the wind now behind them started the second half strongly and forced a number of good saves from the Valley keeper Chris Child, back in goal after a number of weeks on the sidelines through a back injury.
However, Child had no chance as Polonia finally got the equaliser their approach work deserved after good work down the wing found their striker in space in the box who finished with a first time strike.
A second goal for Polonia followed after an attack from Aire Valley came to nothing.
This was followed five minutes later by a third as Valley went chasing the game and were caught out by the speed of the Polonia counter attack.
A late near miss from Michael Sharp was the closest Aire Valley got to getting back in the game.
