Stand by to shed some of those excess pounds you’ve added over the festive period at the annual Silsden New Year’s Day Fun Run.
If you’d rather stay in bed, fear not, you can do the run in your night attire!
Silsden supporters Paul and Jean Buckley organise the annual event, with money raised going to the Cobbydalers and Bramley Buffaloes RLCC. This is the 27th year it has been held.
The organisers are encouraging participants to turn out this year in their sleepwear, thereby negating the “got nothing to wear – my kit’s dirty” category of excuses for not turning out.
Up to 100 hardy souls are expected to take part in the event, which climbs 500 feet from The Green in Silsden via Bradley Road and Hole Lane before a cruise along Heights Lane and a descent down Horn Lane and Bradley Road.
Every runner will receive a timed certificate, a mystery prize and, donations permitting, a surprise from Santa’s sack.
Competitors have traditionally given small wrapped donations.
As a special incentive to challenge Dave Throup’s 21-year-old record, there will be a cash prize of £1 per second shaved off his time of 15 minutes 25 seconds.
A similar deal is on offer for any lady who can challenge Carol Greenwood’s 1991 record of 18 minutes 18 seconds.
Last year’s event was won by Russell Ashdown, in a time of 17:24, with Tracey Bailey the first woman home in 19:22. Seventy-three runners took part.
The event starts at 11.15 am from The Green (Bradley Road) with entry open from 10.30am and costing just £2.50.
Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome at this friendly family event.

The prize giving will take place afterwards in the Sunnybank Social Club.
