Honours even in Reserves derby

Silsden Res 2 Barnoldswick Town Res 2
All the telling action came in an entertaining first-half of Silsden’s North West Counties League derby against neighbours Barlick.
The visitors stormed forward from the start of a delayed Reserve Division match – the referee failed to turn up so home official Pete Hanson had to stand in.
Barlick went ahead after just three minutes through Paul Fildes but only a fine save by Alex Woodcock prevented Tom Marshall levelling 12 minutes later.
A minute later a last-ditch challenge sent Nick McNally’s close-range shot squirting narrowly wide of a post for a corner.
And the visitors made the most of those let-offs after 19 minutes when a corner was headed back into the Cobbydalers’ box and Lewis Jordan headed home from five yards.
Four minutes later Silsden grabbed a lifeline in stunning style. Man of the match Matthew Moses picked up the ball wide on the right. A mazy dribble saw the young right-back cut inside one challenge. He cleverly controlled a bobbling ball to scoot past a second into the penalty area and then saw his shot loop off a defender and into the net over Woodcock.
It was all square three minutes before the break when Mike Garrod latched onto a misplaced pass just inside the visitors’ half. It still left him with lots to do but he outpaced one defender, twisted and tricked his way past another, before slotting the ball into the net from the edge of the area.
The action was not over though. A minute later a deep cross saw Fildes in space near the penalty spot. His deft flick wrong-footed Chris Paulat-Brigg but somehow the keeper managed to throw out a hand to divert the goalbound shot wide.
Woodcock pulled off a fine save to deny Marshall in a second-half which saw the teams cancel each other out. Barlick substitute Ben Gorman was denied by Paulat-Brigg four minutes before the end.
Silsden wasted a fine chance to pinch all three points in the closing stages when Woodcock was penalised for picking up a back pass but the free-kick was blocked.
