Oxenhope Rec 2 Kippax 5
Oxenhope produced an embarrassingly poor performance against lowly Kippax in the Premier Division of the West Yorkshire League.
They fell behind in the fourth minute when the visitors broke down the right, keeper Sam Lee rushed from his line to make a block but the ball was scooped over his head and the Kippax front man found himself with an open goal for a tap in.
On 20 minutes the home side equalised when Ben White chased down a long ball, got the better of the keeper and hooked the ball home. Back came Kippax from a break down their left, the ball was crossed but defender Scott Nelson’s attempted clearance found his own net. Oxenhope strove to get on level terms but for all their efforts they could not find their way past a physical Kippax defence.
After the break Oxenhope did get on top and penned the visitor’s in their own half with strikes from Dan Moriarty, Tom Marshall and Michael Garnett all going close.
On 75 minutes Garnett broke into the box, was brought down from behind and Chris Day confidently stroked home the resulting penalty.
It looked now as if Oxenhope would go on to secure the points as they pressed for the winner, but Kippax broke down field on three occasions which saw them take the lead and go on to extend their advantage in the final ten minutes, helped by some woeful defending by the home side.
