A Keighley-born Football League star has avoided a broken leg but will be out of action for up to six weeks after suffering a bizarre accident.
Oxford United captain Jake Wright suffered a gashed knee when he landed on the bar that holds the back of the net to the ground, while making a clearance during last weekend’s 1-0 win over Torquay United.
An X-ray confirmed no breakage or tendon damage but the 27-year-old defender has had stitches in the wound.
“It is sore but it could have been a lot worse,” Wright told the club’s website
The central defender cleared the ball from under the crossbar but landed on his knee on the bar. 
“I thought it was serious straight away” he told www.oufc.co.uk. “I saw blood and just thought ‘Look away’.
“It is a really deep cut but they stitched it and sent me home. It is sore but it could have been a lot worse.”
