“Up Over” clash for Silsden youngsters

SilsdenWhile Silsden old boys Joe Gaughan and Chris Wademan have been making a name for themselves on the other side of the world, the next generation of Cobbydalers stars have been taking on opposition from Down Under on home turf.
Teams from the join Australia/New Zealand Balcatta FC were at the Angel Telecom Stadium this week as part of their UK tour.
The u16s drew 3-3 with Silsden but the Balcatta u15s proved to strong for a Silsden u14s.
BalcattaThe Cobbydalers youngsters did well in the first half to go in at the break only one down but strength and physique told in the second half as the visitors ran out 7-0 winners.
No one could fault the Silsden youngsters for their effort and application. Good luck to them for the remainder of the season.
The two squads of 31 youngsters from Western Australia, and Dunedin and Christchurch, New Zealand, are spending a fortnight playing a series of fixtures around the north of England.
Their itinerary includes playing (and watching) fixtures that include academies of professional clubs and they have also played against teams representing Burnley, Barnsley, Blyth Spartans, Chester City, Hull City and, more locally, Keighley Shamrocks.
Last Saturday the players were pitch side to watch Burnley lose 1-0 to Middlesbrough at Turf Moor.
