Broomhill 2 FC Sporting 2
Broomhill produced a much improved display against their Marley rivals with a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
Broomhill made a number of changes from the team who was comprehensively beaten by Grindleton the previous week.
Sporting took the lead midway through the first half. After an error from the Broomhill defence, the opposition striker seized the chance and drove the ball low into the corner from 18 yards.
Broomhill hit back immediately when a teasing cross from full back Jamie Greenwood was headed into Sporting net by their own defender.
With Joe Slater, Patrick King and Tom hill working tirelessly in midfield to contain the opposition, Broomhill took the lead on the hour. A cross from the right was headed to the edge of the box where centre back Aaron Whitaker volleyed into the bottom corner.
With both teams having a disappointing first game of the season, it was inevitable that Sporting would come back heavily at Broomhill to avoid the loss.
With 10 minutes left, a save by goalkeeper Jake Yaxley was parried onto a Sporting player and this was deflected off his thigh into the Broomhill net.
Overall, a much improved performance with a much changed team which should serve as a foundation for the coming season.
