Ryan double pushes Silsden into top six

A brace from Kevin Ryan promoted the Cobbydalers into sixth place in the North West Counties League Premier Division table.
He struck after 51 and 75 minutes to give Silsden a fourth straight win and maintain their 100 per cent 2015 record.
Centre-back Ryan, who netted the winner at Abbey Hey a week earlier, opened the scoring with a powerful free-kick.
He added a second before the Cobbydalers conceded a penalty in the 85th minute but the Mechanics squandered the chance to put the pressure on the Yorkshiremen.
Silsden assistant manager Ryan Haigh said: “Since Boxing Day and the victory over local rivals Barnoldswick Town we have defiantly ground out results that have seen us rise to sixth in the table and we currently sit above all the other local sides.
“Against Blackpool we put in another solid performance and deservedly came away with the three points in what was a windswept game against the resurgent Mechanics.
“Defensively we look solid and the introduction of Morrison and Grimes has added strength and experience to the squad, while Danny Riley brings that little bit of magic and with him and Craig Nicholls we will always cause teams problems.

Rusty Rec pay for slow start

Playing their first West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One fixture since late November, Oxenhope looked totally off the pace from the start against their inform hosts.
In the opening five minutes they could have been two down after a couple of basic defensive errors.
The home side did eventually take the lead after 10 minutes when a long ball over the top and a neat cut back saw the onrushing Wetherby midfield player fire past goalkeeper Nick Hudson.
Ten minutes later the home side doubled their advantage when another long ball caught out the Oxenhope defence pleading for offside and Hudson was beaten low to his left.
Wetherby continued to dominate the half as Oxenhope struggled to find any rhythm.

The Whitestars hit back from behind to move joint top of Division One of the Craven League.
They trail Chatburn by a goal difference of 13 but have two games in hand.
But the hosts made hard work for themselves after conceding the opening goal inside just 40 seconds.
It was 2-0 to the visitors after 15 minutes but the Whitestars rallied with 10 minutes to go before half-time when Mark Bradley continued his fine scoring form, slotting in at the back post.
The hosts started brightly in the second half, helped with the wind in their favour and James Whitehead spun to poke in the ball to make it 2-2.
Man of the match Sam Stanfield added a third with a header with Ben McClennon and a second from Bradley securing victory before third-placed Gargrave hit a late consolation goal,
Manager Gary Lund said: “It was a great victory and a superb team effort made from all 14 squad players.”

Another whiteout for council pitches

For the third week running there will be no action on Bradford Council-maintained pitches this weekend.
A council spokesman said: “The recent snowfall has made it impossible to carry out maintenance or line marking.
“Because many pitches are covered in snow, the ground will be wet and can become damaged if sports events are played on them.”
FC Sporting Keighley have again taken precautions, should their match at Skipton LMS Reserves fall victim to the weather.
they have booked the artificial pitch at Marley to host a friendly.

Late goals deny Silsden a shock victory

SilsdenTingley Athletic 2
Silsden 2

Silsden came within 10 minutes of causing an upset against a Tingley side who had won seven out of their eight West Riding Women’s League Division One games.
Despite the form book, Silsden started the game the brighter, getting the ball down and spreading play well.
Midway through the half a quick throw by Sarah Betterton found Harriet Brewer, who laid the ball back to Betterton. She found Laura Ackroyd in the Tingley area, who turned a defender before putting the ball in the bottom corner of the net.

Double delight for Silsden

SilsdenAbbey Hey 1 Silsden 2
A three-goal flurry either side of half-time went in Silsden’s favour as they cemented their place in the top half of the North West Counties League table by completing a double over their hosts.
The Cobbydalers had beaten Hey 4-1 in their season opener and made it a full six points thanks to a 44th-minute strike from Ben Lamb and another by Kevin Ryan six minutes into the second half, five minutes after Jon Hardy had levelled for the home side.
The Cobbydalers travelled to the Abbey Stadium following a three-week lay off due to the weather, hoping to maintain their climb up the table.
Ryan Haigh, in charge due to the absence of Andy Geary, brought in two new players –Michael Morrison into midfield and Robert Grimes to lead the attack.
At the start of play the Abbey stood nine points below the Cobbydalers but history suggested that the Silsden would face a difficult game having never completed the double over the Mancunians.
Despite a poor start to the season, Abbey played some neat triangular football on the floor and in the opening half they created more chances than the Cobbydalers.
The first chance of the game fell to the home side, John Hardy firing over the bar after Liam Murray had cut across the goal.
