Salts struck twice in a second-half fightback but it was not enough to avoid defeat at West Riding County Amateur Division Two title-chasing Ovenden.
The hosts led 2-0 at half-time but goals from Adam Hussain and Andrew Sadowskyj gave the visitors some hope, despite conceding three more times.
Bottom-placed Salts remain five points adrift of Tyersal Reserves, who crashed to an incredible 27-0 defeat at leaders Gildersome Spurs, with two games in hand. Ben Keedy scored 10 of those goals, with Mike Hall 6, Jonny Blatchford and Aidan McCormack also hitting hat-tricks.
Salts first team dropped a place in the Premier Division table after being held to a 0-0 draw by Hunsworth.
